I always thought I will get back to my work once my baby was born. Yes, I thought but now my baby is almost two years and I am still thinking. Leaving my good technical career of about eleven years was not easy but I have to do it as my child wanted me more. Most of us think this way and leave our work.
I am getting all the support which a partner can provide but still, I am not getting the confidence or you can say a punch to start my career once again. As I analyze what is the reason behind and I got a few points which are the blockers on my way. As I note them down so that if they are in your way too just knock them!
- I am not motivated to start from where I left, all my colleagues are now way ahead of me and I may not accept but somewhere this is hurting me. Although taking the break and raising my baby was my decision but still. If you are thinking this then this is not the complete truth. Once you start working and in sometime you can match them.
- People are less sensitive or you can say I am more sensitive to ask and show unnecessary sympathy.
- Maybe what I was doing for so long for almost eleven years is now not motivating me and wants me to make or build something which motivates me and add value to my life.
- I have a fear to start again. Yes, whatever I want to do whether it’s my job or my own business I have to start again with all the energy and with better time management skills.
- Many thoughts are killing my energy which will push me to stand and run again. So dont think much just start. A small step will mater alot.
There are many reasons which I can come up of not starting but I just need one reason to start. Many studies shows females generally give up their career for kids and home. Its good to look after family and home but giving up the career should not be the option.
I decide to get backto my health and weightloss work and I hope many ladies get a chance to get back to work or start some thing which keeps them high and happy. At the end its about satisfaction of our work and we should not regrete not getting back to our work.
Your body needs time to recover from having your baby. So your practitioner won’t recommend that you go on a diet or start exercising straight after you’ve given birth. Normally, after four to six weeks you can start with some light exercise.
My experience says when your baby is around four to five months start with your goal and give it a time period of six months to get back to pre-pregnancy weight. If you have gained very less then its an altogether different story but if the weight gain is more than 15kgs you will need around five months to lose them. I am considering all the factors when I say around five months.
Let’s understand the right time to start this journey, below are a few questions which you need to ask yourself before starting the journey.
- Is your body ready, when means no pain around your stitches and you don’t feel week?
- Check if you don’t have any swellings around your breast or abdomen.
- Make sure you don’t get your stitches stretch.
- Are you getting proper sleep? Which means during nappy change and feeding duties are you getting enough sleep to start a new journey?
- How important is weight loss for you? Which means are you thinking a lot about it or you are feeling ashamed of your body or you don’t want to buy new clothes?
- Are you breastfeeding? If yes, you are already burning few extra calories and if you feel week then give weight loss a second thought.
- Do you have help or support?
Better will be to check with your doctor but normally after 6 weeks, our body gets ready to start with some exercise.
If you are pregnant, you probably have had some experience with mood swings. You are not alone. mood swings during pregnancy are common. You may be excited about being pregnant, but you can also be stressed or overwhelmed. You may have constant worries that may contribute to your mood swings.

- How am I going to manage financially?
- Will my baby be healthy?
- Am I doing the right things to prepare for my baby?

- Is this the right time to have a baby? and many more..
What causes mood swings during pregnancy?
Mood changes during pregnancy can be caused by physical stresses, fatigue, changes in your metabolism, or by the hormones estrogen and progesterone. Significant changes in your hormone levels can affect your level of neurotransmitters, which are brain chemicals that regulate mood. Mood swings are mostly experienced during the first trimester between 6 to 10 weeks and then again in the third trimester as your body prepares for birth.
What should I do to treat my mood swings?
It is important to understand you are not alone, mood swings are just another aspect of the pregnancy experience. Knowing that what you are experiencing is normal and somewhat expected may help you cope.
The following list includes some ways to manage your stress level:
- Get plenty of sleep
- Take a break during the day to relax
- Get regular physical activity
- Eat well
- Spend time with your partner
- Take a nap.
- Go for a walk
- See a movie with a friend
- Don’t be so hard on yourself
- Try pregnancy yoga class or meditation
- Try breathing exercises
- Get a massage
- Get help and don’t make yourself tired
- Avoid things which make you tensed and stressed
If your mood swings last more than two weeks and do not seem to get better, you may want to ask your healthcare provider for a referral to a counselor.
An unexplained change in weight is one of the most common signs of a thyroid disorder. Weight gain may signal low levels of thyroid hormones, a condition called hypothyroidism. In contrast, if the thyroid produces more hormones than the body needs, you may lose weight unexpectedly. This is known as hyperthyroidism. Thyroid hormone is responsible for your overall metabolism
Women are as much as 10 times as likely as men to have a thyroid problem. Remember to get your thyroid tested.
I myself is suffering from Hypothyroidism and I get my TSH tested every three months. It’s under control with proper medication and exercise. So if you suspect a thyroid problem, ask your doctor to do a blood test for thyroid stimulating hormone (TSH) as well as for thyroid antibodies.
Hypothyroidism and symptoms:
- Feeling tired and having no energy are issues associated with lots of conditions, but they’re strongly linked with hypothyroidism. If you’re still tired in the morning or all day after a full night’s sleep, that’s a clue that your thyroid may be underactive.
- Feeling unusually depressedor sad can also be a symptom of hypothyroidism.
- Skin that’s dry and itchy can be a symptom of hypothyroidism. The change in skin texture and appearanceis probably due to slowed, which can reduce sweating. Skin without enough moisture can quickly become dry and flaky, nails can become brittle and may develop ridges.
- Unexplained weight gain
How do you manage your weight?
- Proper medication. Get your TSH tested every after three months.
- Start with some body activity like walking and cross training.
- Follow a routine of eating healthy and measured.
- Relax and meditation. This will calm you down and motivate to get back to shape.
- Avoid vegetables from the cruciferous family are known goitrogens. They include brussels, sprouts, broccoli, bok choy, cauliflower, cabbage, kale and more.
Hypothyroidism is not a disease but a hormonal disorder which can be kept under control if treated on right time.
I lost some ten kgs in about 3 months just by following few diet tips and floor exercises at home. Being a mom it’s often tough to do things for self and leave your baby and go to gym unless you have a very strong support system. Unfortunately I have no support system which will allow me to leave my baby and get out to the gym, so I started doing my own exercises and managing my diet.
Five point which will help you in weight loss:
- Drink water not caffeine.
- Drink your food, yes I said it right. When you add extra water to your soup or milk it will not only full your stomach but will help you in not taking those extra calories.
- Eat a good breakfast. Eating what you like in your breakfast will make your day energetic and full of happiness but if possible avoid oily and sugary stuff.
- Do some 30-40 mins of floor exercise at home and get out with your baby for morning and evening walk.
- Do your dinner before sunset. Yes and it helps a lot to get #backtoshape.
Follow this routine for about a month and then increase your exercise time slowly.
